8 Use-Cases for MOTOTRBO Applications

Posted by Lisa MacGillivray on Monday, April 27, 2015

When you first start researching ways to improve your communication across your business or organization, you will typically learn that digital two-way radios are often the best answer. Whether you are looking for reliability, durability, or just a more integrated way to communicate with your staff, two-way radios offer many great benefits (read more about those here).

One of the most useful and relevant benefits offered is the ability to choose from a robust selection of customized, integrated data applications to use on your MOTOTRBO radio. These applications give you the ability to expand your communications beyond just voice and audio, and offer the convenience of having data directly on your radio device. MOTOTRBO applications span a variety of use-cases, but range from GPS tracking to alarm monitoring to SMS communication (texting). Here are just some of the areas data applications can help in:

For school campuses to run safely and efficiently, communication is incredibly important. While aconnected administration can lead to a better learning environment for students, it can also help in the case of emergency preparedness. This is why leveraging technologies like radio communication is such a great idea for those in the education sector, specifically the IT and administration areas: it helps everywhere.

Whether you are looking to improve student safety, emergency response procedures, faculty communication, or any other element of your campus, implementing a radio communication strategy will help keep your entire campus stay connected, informed, and safe.

Stay Connected

True connection occurs when the school faculty can communicate with each other freely, regardless of their campus location. For example, when communicating with each other through cell phones, it is difficult to remain connected when your staff encounters various "dead spots" throughout campus (common areas include parking garages, boiler rooms, and even gymnasiums). These areas prevent your staff from communicating potentially important or urgent information in a timely manner. They are also simple inconveniences, which can cause conversations to be disrupted.

By implementing a two-way radio communications solution, such as MotoTRBO, the entire faculty on your campus can remain connected regardless of the time of day or campus location. You can learn more here

How many of you received a local trade flier indicating “Hi Power Radio, Built for Heavy Duty Use” or  “Feature-Packed, and Promises Uncompromising Performance.” Or maybe you purchased some radios from your Industrial Supply Company who carries them in their catalog. You buy a handful and they suit  your needs. You buy more and then more and then more. Now you have over 70 low cost radios all working against each other and your solution just became your problem. We see it day in and day out. People buy the cheap inexpensive FRS (Family Radio Service) radios for commercial use. It solves an immediate need, but creates a headache in the long term.

Those charged with maintaining or upgrading the communications system of a busy hotel have their work cut out for them. They're charged with both keeping up with increasing guest expectations when it comes to wireless, and making sure critical staff communications run smoothly. Depending on the size, prior communication equipment, and budget you have to work with, some options may be aesthetically more appealing than others. For example, in a smaller hotel, the upfront cost of using cellular devices can be more appealing than putting down a lot of money for two way radios and other communication devices. Or if you’re in need of a quick fix, ordering communication equipment (two way radios and cellular devices alike) from a website may seem to be the answer.

Are Portable Radio Systems Right For You?

Posted by Kendra Newlon on Thursday, February 20, 2014
Hey All! Tommy Two Way here.

We all know that two way radios are essential for communication on the go, across a long distance, or in places where cell phone coverage might be obsolete. But what happens when you need radio communication in a temporary place, where your normal equipment can’t be set up?

Have no fear, that’s what a portable radio system is for! A few of my clients here at Chicago Communications have already taken advantage of the many benefits of having an entire radio system at the palm of their hands, wherever they go. Now, this isn’t a system to replace your current radio communications, nor is it for a new one. Think of it as an extension to your current radio system. These portable systems are designed to enhance your already seamless radio communication, adding a portable system to take off site for a job or special event with clients.

You’ve got your two way radios…now what?

Posted by Kendra Newlon on Friday, January 24, 2014

We all know that two way radios are highly beneficial in keeping everyone connected when it comes to communication. They’re reliable, and much more cost efficient than cell phones.

But do you know how to optimize your radios for even more benefits, features, and connectivity? Simply having a two way radio is a start to great communication, but there are a few ways to get the most of your radio.

Apps, for example. I know your mind shoots to the Angry Birds game on your smart phone you probably have in your pocket or purse.  Even for two way radios…there’s an app for that.

With a little more importance than that of Angry Birds, applications that are added to your two way radio enhance the capabilities and performance of said two way radio . MOTOTRBO radios have applications to augment fleet management, dispatch consoles, work order management, system management, alarm management, personal tracking, email/text gateway, and interoperability. Whew! So many ways to use a two way radio for more than just communicating.

What are the first things you think of when given the slogan ‘Are you ready for some football?!” Many ideas such as food, tailgating, friends and team rivalries are the first to pop into our minds. But what if we didn’t have our Sunday afternoon/nights of football, or what would we have to look forward to on Monday nights after a day at work if the NFL ceased to exist? Fault proof communication is one of the silent, yet very important aspects of running not only a successful game, but a stellar season.

THE CONNECTED RESORT with MotoTrbo Applications

Posted by Kendra Newlon on Wednesday, October 16, 2013

Getting the right information to the right person at the right time can mean the difference between a returning guest and a dissatisfied customer; that’s why guest satisfaction is at the top of the priority list for any organization in the Hospitality sector. Rapid response, attention to detail and well-informed staff are key to ensuring the experience is memorable for all the right reasons.

Hotel staff often uses a variety of disjointed independent communication tools such as cell phones, pagers, WiFi phones, paper work tickets and email to stay on top of customer requests. Large facilities and remote areas result in poor coverage, missed notifications and delayed responses to guest requests when it matters most. Furthermore recurring monthly fees and a constant desire to reduce operational expenses has pushed more and more hotels to explore the benefits of two-way radios.

Guaranteed coverage on a private network, durable portable devices, and integration to current building infrastructure systems and guest management systems via data applications make Motorola’s MOTOTRBO an excellent option for hotels of all sizes.

Technical equipment isn't all boring!

Most people in the commercial world have little knowledge of the two way radio industry and how it works. I can relate to this because I used to be on the outside myself. Even just mentioning the word 'two way radio' to me, I would have probably said, "huh?" And there are days I still get asked what kind of company Chicago Communications is; I usually go for the same explanation when I answer. Two way radios are walkie-talkies, but not the ones little kids play with across their backyards or in the neighborhood woods. I'm talking about the professional kind that police officers use to communicate with each other while on duty, in their cars or in pursuit. But  it doesn't stop with police officers. There are many, many more uses for two way radios just like there are many more products and services available from ChiComm. Here are a mere 8 situations radios are used that reminded me just how "cool" it is to be a part of this industry.
