Stay Focused on Planning for the Future

Pointers from the Principals: Another new year...Another plan put in place.

     It’s hard to believe that another year has wrapped.  It’s true what they say, “The older you get the faster the years fly by.”  Just when you feel like you’ve successfully wrapped up a year, established plans, and begun gaining momentum in the plans that have been set for that year, the end of the year is upon you and the cycle starts all over again.  Where did the time go?

     The end of a year and the start of a new one is always a hectic time for any business.  There are end-of-year financials to attend to, tax reporting, taxes themselves of course, insurance renewals, and several yearly government requirements to complete such as Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) reports, Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) re-certifications, and Affirmative Action Plans (AAPs)-- just to name a few.  Strategic objectives set for the prior year must also be reviewed and assessed for completion.  At the same time budgeting, strategic planning, and forecasting for both the Company and its suppliers must be attended to for the upcoming year.  New strategic objectives must be set.  This is all on top of the “regular” day-to-day work that needs to be maintained.  There never seems to be enough time to manage the transition from one year to the next, but if one doesn’t stay focused, one can easily let the very important new year planning piece slide.  This cannot happen.  Planning is what keeps a company moving forward, growing, and continually improving. 

   At Chicago Communications we work with customers that range from 9-1-1 dispatch centers to school districts to hotels. Although each customer's objectives may be very different, each facilities' efforts are as important as the next when it comes to safety, security and communication. And every business and agency can relate to putting in place plans of action that focus on resolving to be ready for the year ahead. So whether you've experienced a year to be proud of or one you'd rather forget and whether you like it or not, it's time to review the prior-year-to-new-year routine and get back to work once again.  We are incredibly grateful for a successful 2012, but as a wise man recently told us, “You deserve a minute to savor the performance, but there is too much on your agenda to let you do it for much longer than that.”

Ooops, guess my minute is already up.  Remember what I said about time flying?  Time to get moving!
