It was a momentous year at the Motorola roadshow in Las Vegas. Our yearly trek to understand products, goals and networking with colleagues really put a vision in our minds. As a follow up to my notes on the Public Safety (Future of the DBlock) aspect of the Motorola Expo this year, we also looked into the future with Digital Mobile Radio (DMR); and for Motorola this means MOTOTRBO. A technology that lends itself to gain two voice paths for one channel, it effectively doubles the ability of a customer’s radio system for voice traffic. In addition with Application Developers who write software to these radio platforms, we had a chance to review the concepts and systems that allow unique platforms such as GPS, Texting, Personal Location systems and Interoperability to be displayed in one location.

The Motorola Expo in itself is becoming almost half the size of the IWCE (International Wireless Communications Expo). The products and applications shown allow a commercial radio user to:

1)      Handle Radio TrafficNext Gen Chevy Taho

2)      Process Work orders or Reports

3)      Monitor equipment remotely

4)      Text between radio and smartphone

      All of this can be done over one radio system. Your standard voice call went from: I push to talk and you listen, to handling data and voice all seamlessly on a single platform. Digital Mobile Radio is the next wave for commercial systems. We welcome the opportunity to meet with any customer to review their challenges to determine what solution is best for them. This is no longer, “We’ll send you two radios, sir.” If done right it becomes, “What do you need those radios for and how can I help you with your other problems?”

      Selling products for the sake of making a sale is, and has been out. As a radio dealer we have been selling solutions for years. Customers have problems and we review our product lines to see if there is a fit to fix that problem. Well with the advancement in electronics the growth is now exponential. What took 10 years may now take 3. This rapid advancement gives us an opportunity to be your "Trusted Advisor". Sure we want your business and for you to only use our company, but we know you have choices in vendors and products.

     If you look at that exponential growth you are going to see a shift in relationships. It is companies like ours that you will contact for all of your converged needs. Radio, Data, Voice and Video will migrate to one universal platform. Up until recently a majority of our customers had enough knowledge of their own to make them dangerous. Well the future will have such a mix of product and information sharing that you will need to have someone guide you. Someone that you can trust.

     Radio is radio and always will be, but data is information and it can be shared anywhere. When you start converting Voice, Radio and Radio to data, it can and will go anywhere. It is what you do with it that will lend itself to your success and the solutions we hope to solve.
