    Tom's Tech Talk (#3):
What does TEAM mean for your business?

After returning from the IWCE tradeshow in Las Vegas (earlier this year), it appears that radio platforms are starting to have the ability to merge together. At a seminar held by Motorola, they presented the Motorola TEAM product. This product, although specific in application, allows for disparate systems to link together. The intent is to have one number, one voicemail. The concept links an IP based telephone system in your office with your handheld smartphone and your radio system all together.

Picture this today: Your manufacturing floor operates off of Motorola MOTOTRBO digital radios, these radios allow for connectivity between line supervisors and each of their team members along with supply chain members, insuring product is available to keep the line going. As an excellent way to keep manufacturing in communications, the line supervisor needs to be in contact with the department manager. This manager may or may not be in the same facility. Therefore in order for the line supervisor to talk with the manager, he or she will have to find a telephone. Whether cellular or landline, the point is they have to change their communication medium to contact them.

Now imagine the line supervisor continuing to use their radio and connecting to their manager on a cell phone or land line. In addition imagine the manager half way around the world dialing into the radio system on their handheld smartphone. This all can happen with the advancement of digital two way radios and digital technology.
